You have been hacked... Self-Hacked!
“80 % of people don’t know their passion” - Stanford University
“70 % of people believe that changing just one small thing would make an improvement to their happiness level” - The Telegraph
How often do you really take time to focus on exploring your thoughts, fears and desires? Do you know yourself enough to make a good next step?
This was our initial idea, when we connected with the Creativity Squads’ people, Vesku and Anna. In the ever-changing working life, what are the things that make our day, what inspire us, what makes the work meaningful. With that we decided to organize Self-Hack event in Oulu.
Self-Hack is built on the concept of design thinking and during the weekend our participants spent 1,5 days that helped them to:
Explore thoughts, strengths, weaknesses, fears, wishes and desires, learn how to listen to oneself
Discover areas that you want to change or improve and learn how to boost your creativity and motivation, manage stress and take control over obstacles
Design the next steps, create personal roadmap and receive feedback
The event was held at Business Kitchen on Kotkantie Campus of Oulu University of Applied Sciences. The facilities of Business Kitchen offered us a relaxed and inspiring space to work during the weekend.
From life stories to future plans
During the weekend our participants got to think about the past, present and future through different tools and methods. Event was divided into different stages that were accept, emphatize, identify, ideate, prototype and test. Each stage had both individual (e.g. Wheel of My Life and Personal Roadmap) and team exercises that helped to think about the current life situation, what are the values and where are we going. The event ended with all participants pitching their learnings from the weekend.
Everything was based on discussions and actual doing, which is really important for us at OuluES.
It’s smart to hack yourself
In the world of hacking businesses, solving problems, creating companies though different hackathons, it’s smart to every once in a while hack yourself. It really is worth it. When you focus on yourself and your plans, you get so much out of yourself and can crystallize your goals and dreams.
We believe that Self-Hack concept is something that everyone should experience at least once (per year). It supports the concept of entrepreneurship as a working life skill and helps everyone to develop themselves to succeed in the global world.
Thanks to Vesku and Anna for great job in facilitating the event and if you are interested in organizing a Self-Hack in your city. Read more about the concept here.
Self-Hack Oulu will come back at least once more in 2019, so stay tuned for that.
